Located in Morgan County, Barnett, Missouri, is a small but resilient community with deep historical roots, affordable real estate, and a peaceful rural setting. Originally settled in the mid-19th century, Barnett has endured natural disasters, economic shifts, and infrastructure changes, yet continues to thrive as a close-knit town known for its welcoming atmosphere and connection to nature.
The town was first known as Stone House, with a post office established in 1858. It was later renamed Barnettsville in 1875, after Barnett Lusk Jr., the son of a local landowner. In 1880, a devastating cyclone destroyed much of the community, leading to its relocation one mile south to align with the Rock Island Railroad in 1901. This move marked a new beginning, securing Barnett’s place as a small but essential hub in Morgan County.
Today, Barnett remains a rural retreat with affordable housing, natural beauty, and a slower pace of life, making it an attractive destination for homebuyers, retirees, and outdoor enthusiasts.
