with a post office in 1872, it used to be a busy stop on U.S. Route 54, serving both travelers and locals. Though officially disincorporated in 2012, the town continues to be a lively and tight-knit rural community, offering beautiful scenery and a calm lifestyle near the Lake of the Ozarks.

A Notorious History: The Macks Creek Law
In the early 1990s, Macks Creek became well-known for its rigorous traffic law enforcement. A notorious speed trap on U.S. Route 54 was key in keeping the town financially stable—traffic fines accounted for almost 85% of its revenue at one point. This led to the 1995 establishment of the "Macks Creek Law," which limited traffic fine revenue to 45% of a town's income. A 1997 state audit found severe financial issues, causing Macks Creek to file for bankruptcy in 1998. By August 2012, the town's remaining citizens voted to disband the town, ending the local government.

Despite facing challenges, Macks Creek thrives as a resilient small community, with locals cherishing a strong bond with the area's history and rural charm.
